Our History
Setur, a Koç Holding company, was founded in 1965 to operate in the Duty-Free Retail Management sector.
Setting out with the first store opened in 1965, we continued our journey with sales to diplomats at the border gates with the Bondstore Merchandising License (Declaration – Embassy Letter), sales to transit and foreign-bound vessels with the Shipstore Merchandising License and sales to airlines with the In-Flight Sales Merchandising License. In 1985, we began catering to Turkish citizens, who lived abroad for a minimum duration of 2 years, through the Exempted Household Appliances Merchandising License, in Ankara and Istanbul.
In 1989, we initiated In-Flight Sales activities with Bosphorus Airlines, blazing the trail in our sector, and subsequently formed collaborations with many other airlines. Towards the end of 2000, we won Turkish Airlines’ In-Flight Duty-Free Sales tender and built a union that would last from 2001 through to 2014.
In 2003, Setur became the supplier of the duty-free store located at the Izmir Nato Headquarters, offering Duty Free products to NATO personnel.
Kuşadası and Çeşme Seaport stores became operational in 2004, following the completion of their privatization processes in 2003. Bodrum Seaport Duty-Free Store was launched in early 2009.
Habur and Cilvegözü land borders were privatized in 2005; Kapıkule land border was opened in 2007 and Sarp Land Border was opened in March 2009.
In June 2009, Kapıkule store was relocated to the new commercial building, while Hamzabeyli Land Border Truck and Hamzabeyli Land Border Passenger stores were opened in April and June 2020, respectively.
Yalıkavak Marina store was relocated and reopened in 2013, following the renovation of the marina.
We launched our Erbil Diplomatic Duty-Free shop in May 2012.
In October 2017, Iğdır Dilucu Land Border and Ardahan Çıldır- Aktaş Land Border Duty-Free Stores were opened.
In 2018, our new stores were launched at Hakkari-Esendere Land Border.
In 2019, our stores at Sarp Land Border were renovated in line with the site renovation. Through continued investments at the border crossings, new stores began operation at Van Kapıköy and Ardahan Türkgözu land borders, while Seferihisar Seaport Store was opened in the same year.
